This is a national Orthodox holiday in honor of family, love and loyalty. Named after King Peter and his wife Fevronia, a girl from a simple family. Saints Peter and Fevronia from Murom are holy of the family and of married devotion. On this day it is customary to make an engagement.
The symbol of pure love in Russia is a daisy flower. Besides, there is a tradition of guessing on a chamomile for their future spouse. Now there is a special medal for the most faithful married couples. On one side is depicted a chamomile, and on the other - images of Peter and Fevronia.
Traditionally this day the peasants first mow and all the spirits of water go to sleep deep into the reservoirs. That why it was allowed to swim without looking back.
On the day of Peter and Fevronia, the weather is determined for the next 40 days. If July 8 is clear, then clear and nice days ahead.
