Slavonic Christmastide are known as two weeks of fortune-telling and magical rites. This week begins the year of the Orthodox calendar. It includes Christmas, Old New Year, Epiphany holidays.
These days young people are guessing at the bridegrooms. There are ceremonial caroling, planting, rummaging, going to visit, rituals for well-being and fertility. It is believed that these days the presence of spirits among people is particularly significant, so the future opens.
From the end of December, a bright day began to increase, people associated it with the victory of good over evil. Therefore, on holy days after Christmas, joy, unrestrained merriment, fellowship, songs and festivities reigned everywhere with a plentiful meal and heartfelt talk.
On holy days, hunting of animals and birds is prohibited.
